Tip of the Month December:

       Welcome to our next Newsletter! In here I will attempt to address some of the common concerns and questions that arise in the selection and hiring of good people in our industry. And today's tip: End of Year opportunity!

       In my forty and more years of training and development within the personnel services industry, I have seen this happen all too often. I remember well the spike in productivity when I first learned this secret: Many HR departments have a recruiting budget, one they will not share with you. I have heard it from those I became friends with: "If we do not use our full budget by the end of the year, we will not receive full funding the next." Suddenly, a couple of placements you did not expect. Magnify that across a few companies and December becomes a great month!
       It starts with that thing I call cold-calling. If you and/or your staff make enough 'proper cold calls' all year long, your people will develop those relationships above and beyond your competitors. I have even been asked, as December is drifting by, "Do you have anyone in your pipeline we can use?" Thank you for the revenues, right? Not for every client, of course, but how do you know? You make calls, you do business, and look under the rocks. No competitor can beat that. They are all sitting back and waiting for the New Year. Yeah, that!
       If your company relies on a job board full of people who almost qualify, shared by all your competitors to see who gets the resume in first, you are losing money! The art of recruiting and marketing has fallen by the wayside, and if those calls are improperly conducted, the results will turn off the caller... not to mention the one called.
