For centuries, prior to intelligence tests, the game of all games was chess. Thinkers, deeply focused, intense thought. Perfect in areas where details are critical. However, rarely, quick communicators. In today's world, they seldom are able to handle the give and take needed in sales or consulting, dealing with professional level people.
So called intelligence tests have evolved to measure that ability to focus, to reason and to think. But they do not measure the communications quotient. So, they are of little help when a Manager needs someone who can communicate clearly, lead a conversation, and seem bright about it. Bright is speed, while smart may imply that deep thinker. And yes, there is such a thing as too much speed which often equates to too much noise.
